Document_Live !
by Mihály Stefanovicz and Andrea Conradsen
Nothing evokes the end of the world more than a man running straight ahead on a beach, swathed in the sounds of his walkman . . . Primitives, when in despair, would commit suicide by swimming out to sea until they could swim no longer. The jogger commits suicide by running up and down the beach. His eyes are wild, saliva drips from his mouth. Do not stop him.
Document_Live ! is a performance/staged video recording by Mihály Stefanovicz in collaboration with Andrea Conradsen. It is the most recent addition to the “Document Cycle” which Stefanovicz have been working with since 2018. The cycle comprises video works which aim to represent real-time duration, and often revolves around long distance runners as protagonists.
Mihály Stefanovicz is a Hungarian visual artist, based in Tromsø. Trained in the craft of studio photography, his artistic practice is inspired by photographic imagery and repetition, which is often manifested in printed matter and multi-channel video installation. In recent projects, Mihály began to experiment with an action-based approach, engaging in repetitive, durational and performative actions, and he has reduced the camera to be solely a tool for documentation. He acquired a bachelor’s degree at Royal Academy of Arts, The Hague (N.L.), and a Master in Fine Arts degree at the Tromsø Academy for Contemporary Art and Creative Writing in 2020.
Andrea Conradsen is a northern Norwegian sound and performance artist, and is currently based in Tromsø. She is curious about what life as a contemporary artist is, and explores this by creating (often) collective works that exist beyond objects. Conradsen currently works with the artists run initiative Kurrant9000, and dreams of New York City.
