TOKYO TWINS
7. October 2016
For the 2016 version of Kulturnatta Tromsø (Cultural Evening Tromsø), Tokyo Twins will be performing at Small Projects. The performance will start at 8pm.
Tokyo Twins is an audio-visual art collaboration between the Tromsø based artists Anne Ødegård and Simon Daniel Tegnander Wenzel. They work within performance and visual art forms rooted in electronic music, technology and sub-culture.
Live, Tokyo Twins reflect a musical echo from trance, rave, ragging culture and industrial through their self-proclaimed genre «Eurodeth» inspired by the electronic music of the 90s and 00s. Moving seamlessly through emotions of ecstasy and despair, Tokyo Twins’ lyrics take on a cosmic narrative where personal experiences and emotions are transformed into mythologies in a fairytale-like expression.
In 2015 Tokyo Twins made a site specific live performance in the infamous Emanuel Vigeland Mausoleum, a meditation on creation of inner landscapes and how technology can be used to understand nature in new ways. Earlier this year, Tokyo Twins premiered the video piece ELEMENT, described as: «a magic-realistic documentary about identity, blurring the lines between fiction and reality» based on the artists own experiences of growing up in decentralized, rural areas in southern Norway.
Currently, they are working on a clothing line using natural materials and dyes, and embroidery, in addition to creating handmade wellness products under brand HEX, inspired by traditional remedies and witchcraft.
At Kulturnatta, Tokyo Twins will perform brand new material from their upcoming album «Let be Phantasee» at Small Projects.
